Alyssa Lempesis works from imaginative speculation on uncanny ecologies in which microorganisms digest plastics and pure metal, and thrive in pockets of gut sludge. Converging the scientific and fantastical realm of organisms and processes, Gulp presents sculptural objects and animations driven by possibilities between alien imaginings and archaeological reconstructions. Lumpy masses and crusted fragments accumulate to create a world that exists somewhere between the unknown and familiar, the present and the future.

Alyssa Lempesis received an MFA from University of California at Davis (2014) and a BA at University of California at Berkeley (2012). Recent exhibitions include solo exhibitions at Aggregate Space (Oakland) and Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill), and inclusion in group exhibitions at The Lab (San Francisco, CA), and Marymount California University (San Pedro, CA). Lempesis resides in the Bay Area.
